I Learned A Sedation Dentist Trick

Dear Sedation Dentist,

Dear Sedation Dentist,

Have I got a story for you sedation dentist! It's not really much of a dental experience story, but it was funny to me and my family at the time. I went in to the dentistry to get my wisdom teeth pulled. My brother came with me at the same time to the sedation dentist office to get his wisdom teeth pulled. I mean, the sedation dentist was more like a nurse that helped us go to sleep so that we wouldn't feel the pain of the sedation dentist digging out our wisdom teeth.

I recall talking to the sedation dentist about something, I think about the whole dentistry procedure and the sedation dentist asked if I had any questions about it. I think I was worried about the pain of the dentistry procedure and mostly about the pain that would happen after the dentistry surgery was completed. The sedation dentist told explained that she was putting an IV in my arm that would control my pain by maintaining the dental anesthesia. The sedation dentist explained that I would feel a little out of it in a minute and that would be the pain medication kicking in and then I would sleep. I think I was going to ask her how I would be able to keep my dental cavity open for the dentist if I were in sleep. But, I'm not exactly sure what I was going to ask the sedation dentist because before I could ask anything I was just about in sleep. I remember trying to concentrate on forming the words, but my dental cavity just wouldn't communicate with my brain on that sleep or pain medication.

I never knew the sedation dentist trick until now after my husband had a surgery and the nurse told us the secret of the sedation dentist or anyone using a pain medication on a patient. The way that the sedation dentist knew that I was ready for the dental surgery, that there would be no pain because I was put to sleep on the anesthetic was that I stopped talking mid-sentence. The sedation dentist had a little trick of getting me to talk while she put in the pain killer in the IV and then when I stopped talking or slurred my speech she knew I was ready to go in to the dentistry, the sedation had kicked in.

I find that kind of funny about the sedation dentist's trick! Here I was thinking I would ask some important dental question about the dental procedure and that the sedation dentist was going to listen intently, but the sedation dentist was just getting me to talk so that she could know when the sedation stuff was working.

I've never been on drugs and never will, but I imagine it would be like that sedation dental experience. The sedation dentist putting the pain medication in and me not even knowing until I was out and then sleep and numbness was my bliss. Good thing I had a sedation dentist there or I would have been in a lot of pain! Sleep is the only way to go when getting your wisdom teeth pulled. Thank you sedation dentist for doing your job!
