I took a stand
I took a stand
I took a stand
I TOOK A STAND
We have fellowship meetings every Wednesday. It was in one of those fellow ship meetings that I gave my life to Christ. It was a very nice feeling; I wanted to have the feeling over and over again. The preacher said God would now be my father and that I could now really talk to him as a son.
There were no obligations. All I had to do was believe and well tell my friends of my new status; I would also stop some petty bad behaviors that would come up after God forgave me.
I determined to live up to the expectations expected of a Christian and so off I went to my hostel to break the good news with joy in my heart. I reached the building turned left and walked up the stairs my steps counted out in definite moves just like an elephant. I turned left on reaching the balcony headed for my room, yes it was open. When I stepped in, my girlfriend was on the bed talking to my roommate. My heart missed a beat!
Where have you been? Your girlfriend has been waiting for you my roommate said.
God! My heart became a ding dong. What could I do now? I dropped my book and left the room hurriedly. While leaving, I couldnt help but notice the puzzle clearly written on their faces. I walked to the balcony and rested my arms on the rails acting as a barricade against a possible fall off.
My phone rang: Guy let us go take that money that your friend left before traveling. Havent we agreed? It was my friend reminding me of our agreement yesterday.
I said Im so sorry, I dont do such things again.
Nawa for you oh, you just wan fall my hand Then the phone went dead.
One of my friends in the hostel who heard me come back joined me in the balcony.
How was I doing?, he enquired, I should please lend him some money; he had a chick he wanted to take out. My hearts dingdong returned. How would I do this? I had agreed to give him the money just yesterday, today I was changed. Of course I told him my mind. There was no way I could support such venture now.
He retorted angrily If you wan be born again, make you make am public. With that he left angrily. I felt sad; I was loosing all my friends!
It was then I got the message. God was telling me to make my conversion public! I stormed into my room this time decidedly like a man on a mission. I ordered the girl out of my room. She wanted a reason; I gave her: I was now born again. She left sobbing.
I dialed back my friend I told him I didnt just decide to fall your hand, I just could not go through it. Not with my new status of Born again; I dropped the call. Like one possessed I made a trip round each room in the hostel announcing the new person I had become. From nowhere critics and watchdogs arose. They wanted to know if my speech was righteous enough, the jean trouser I was wearing whether it wasnt for sinners, that girl I just finished greeting was she not my new girl Friend?
I looked for help from fellow Christians especially those who repented before me. I was advised that scoffers would arise after I took a stand for Jesus. I was referred to psalm chapter one where God pronounced blessings for those who wouldnt follow scoffers and sinners. I replied to all my scorners: I was now a Christian and if they did not repent they would as well follow the devil to hell.
I have taken a stand and that was final.
