IIPM Redux - Grand finale in Delhi high court

It has taken a long time to come

It has taken a long time to come. but it seems to be happening at last.

It all started in 2005 with Rashmi Bansal of Jam magazine andGaurav Sabnis of IBM. They investgated and found IIPM claims to be hollow, rather outright lies. There was an outrage on the blogosphere when the self styled professor of IIPM went on an overdrive trying to sully the image of Rashmi Bansal. The year 2008, the best year for Indian economy also helped IIPM get over the doubts cast by the articles in JAM magazine.

The next 2 years were good for IIPM. they have silenced all critics and bought over the large media houses with huge ad spends. however, June 2009 was an year that would change IIPM's fortunes. Out came Maheshwar Peri and started his own educational publication 'Careers360'. and the article in june 2009 titled; IIPM-Best only in claims

The journalism world was anyways used to the reaction that would follow from IIPM. Arindam choudhury, the honorary dean of IIPm wrote an article in his own magazine 'The Sunday Indian' making slanderous statements about Maheshwar Peri and Careers360. This was followed with a paid for article in the Pioneer newspaper, published by a fallen down politician of the right wing BJP.followers of Maheshwar Peri on twitter would remember his tweet about a malicious 'paid article' by Pioneer. Both IIPM and Pioneer did not respond. the silence was obvious. Both didnt spare any effort to attribute malice. It is interesting thatarindam Choudhurydid not respond to any of the charges made by Jam magazine, Careers360and the european website called MBA-channel,

However, in August 2010, things seemed to have come to a boil. Media started taking notice of this david vs. goliath battle. First came the notice taken out by the regulator of Indian education: university grants commission. It was followed by a report in Mint, the newspaper run in partnership with wallstreet journal ad Hindustan times:

However, the killer blow seems to be the notice that the delhi high court has given to IIPM, UGC and AICTE. taking a public interest litigation( a case, i understand that can be filed by any individual to protect public at large). This case has taken a serious view of the illegal degrees being given out by IIPM.

As reported in the Indian newspaper, the indian express, the court seemed to have taken very serious view of the matter. the report says:

"The Division Bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Manmohan treated the PIL as a "serious" matter and said illusions of any kind with respect to affiliation was impermissible for an institution providing education, as it concerned the future of the students. "No educational institution has the right to put students under any illusion or confusion in a country ruled by the law," said the Bench"

I really dont know what happens next and how the Indian justice system operates. We dont know the time lines too. We are also aware of the corruption at the bureacracy level in India, which allowed the silence from all regulators all these years.I do wish this sordid chapter where the large media houses are silent, bought out by huge advertising spends,on a systematic exploitation of the careers of many students in india is brough to justice.
