Temporary Side Effects

Skin discolouration - A permanent lightening of the skin in the treated area can occur. While treating dark hair it can lighten darker skin too. The skin discoloration may be permanent though it can very slowly recover in some cases.

Scarring - In extreme cases of misuse then scarring might occur. Scarring is the result of severe burns and if the laser light applied is significantly more than the skin can cope with then burning will occur in the dermis and the skin heals by formation of a scar. Most of the home use IPL machines do not have the power or have adequately safety devices to prevent this from happening and scarring is exceptionally rare and only occurs with the industrial type machines only found in salons and then only if operated by inexperienced personnel.

The simple summary is that home IPL laser treatment is absolutely safe if operated within the manufactures guidelines. Even if you exceed these then the chances are any effects will only be temporary, sometimes uncomfortable, but still only temporary.
