Ideas For Paris
If you have energy and yearn to get the inside scoop on the best options for spending
a memorable night in the big city, here are a few pieces of advice for you.
Couchsurfing Meetings
Have you heard of couchsurfing.org? This website is the perfect place for you if connecting with the locals is your idea of a good night out. Go to couchsurfing.org, create a profile, and search the Paris group. It offers a forum where visitors and locals alike post meetings and events for all to participate. If you're looking to get off the beaten path, this path is the choice for you.
Meetings can be anything, and as Paris is the city that boast the most "couch surfers"globally (over 20,000), there are events happening on a daily basis. Like most very large cities, the couchsurfing group is so active that they offer a weekly meeting at a caf or bar always within easy reach of the hotels of Paris.
This author has been to a polyglot language exchange in the Latin Quarter. Drinks were downed and French friends were made. Many participants speak English and are actively looking to practice, so don't let your poor French abilities deter you from this awesome experience.
Bastille Bars and Discotheques
You can always keep an eye on the couchsurfing boards for events, because it is not uncommon that someone puts together an outing to one of the many Parisian discos or bars. Parisian discos stay open until the hours of dawn. They are located all over the city, but are mainly concentrated in the central areas. Your cheap Paris hotel might be able to give you the lowdown on the nocturnal happenings.
If a night out is your plan, do as the locals do and begin at a bar before continuing onto the disco. The area known as the Bastille is the hippest place to check out the bar scene. This author was surprised to find a bar filled with Christian symbols and effigies, only to get a shock upon entering the bathroom. Ask around for the Jesus bar. Perhaps this time it would be best not to ask at your hotel in Paris, you might scare them.
Wine along the Seine or at the Pedestrian Bridge
Any hotel in Paris will suggest a night on the Seine to you. Do as the locals do and buy a bottle of wine to accompany you as you hang out au bord of the Seine. Or opt for a high vantage point at the only pedestrian bridge across the river. It's a popular hang out for Parisian youth, where there's also laughter and some guy strumming a guitar. You'll be warmly welcomed.
Whatever you choose to do, Paris nightlife will not disappoint you!
