After months of waiting you're finally going to be bringing your new little man home and dive into the process of creating a nice little haven for him. If you're like most people you probably bought the cot months ago in anticipation. Now you only need to choose the theme for your baby boy's bedding sets. You can get a good idea of what is going to suit simply by looking at the colors already used in the design of the nursery. For a unique nursery style you could choose a navy or orange color scheme. Some parents like to keep it traditional and go for the light blue colors.

It's a good to have an idea of what you need before making a purchase. Every nursery will need at least a few items from the following list:

* 4 x Mattress protectors

* 4 x cotton sheet sets (a minimum of 2 is definitely required)

* 4 x flannelette sheet sets (a minimum of 2 is definitely required)

* 4 x lightweight blankets

* 4 x winter blankets or cot quilts

An essential part of a baby boy's bedding is the mattress protector. You can get them in two types; the flat ones that lay on top of the mattress or the fitted sheet versions. Flat on top mattress protectors, although cheaper, can be a bit troublesome to fit as they tend to shift around when you make the rest of the bed. Even if you do manage to get it on the bed nice and flat your kids will probably use the bed as a trampolene which causes the mattress protector to bunch up. You then have to fix it again so your baby boy isn't going to be uncomfortable while lying on his bed.

Fitted mattress protectors are great. My favorite is the one that has the toweling top and a synthetic bottom. If you're on the short side the fitted mattress protector is an excellent investment. I can stand the mattress up, dress it and then just lay it back down. Job done. Having a mattress that is light and easy to pick up also goes along way to making the job easier. This is most helpful in the earlier months just after having given birth when you're still recovering.
