Idiot Handyman Blues: When Garage Door Sizes Don't Comply
It is best to believe the service and quality of reputable companies which means
that distribute products that contribute greatly to the convenience and safety of our homes. Always consult with an expert, this is always sound advice. On using a garage door opener based on experience, this is a general advice. This is a story of my not-so-handyman work going bad, then finally recovering. Stating it in simple terms, I didn't really notice many components which affected the workability of the opener, especially sizes of garage doors. Thankfully, I didn't lose too much towards the very end.
I was actually getting sick of manually opening my garage door one day. The garage door at our house is described as an "up and over" model. This meant, that every morning, I would go outside the front door, open the garage from the front, get in the car and drive off. I would stand by at a distance with my car open it drive in and close the door at night. The rust on the door requires extra efforts to close and open it causing frustration and a tired feeling everyday. Next, I viewed a garage door opener on the web and minus any hesitation, I opted to purchase the most inexpensive opener and most "simple to install and compatible one" I could locate.
Admittedly, this leaved me with much disappointment. Apparently, the garage door opener I have has too much age on it for a small motor. In addition, my garage door was made of thick and heavy stainless steel, providing a lot of resistance. Thus, without having to say it one can tell I really had a hard time with my first purchase. I re-looked at the online catalog of garage door openers and carefully looked up the garage door sizes that they are specifically able to function with because it is my fault for being uninformed.
Thus I purchased an additional, stronger opener and I was very pleased with it - until I figured out I'd made a tiny error in installing it. This was me rushing to make sure that convenience landed on my lap pretty easily, again. Ive learned two lessons the hard way now: number one is to always read the label and number two is to take the time and read the instructions. Since I didn't do either I suffered the consequences.
Luckily my latest garage door opener has not failed me like the previous device.. My specific garage door opener appeared to be really sturdy and was functioning very efficiently as soon as it was installed right. (at the end). Which brings me to my third lesson: which is to simply call the place where you bought the product from. I bought mine on the web and they were basically really accommodating. Though I am not a skilled handyman, I was able to learn simple techniques for matching garage door sizes. I think these tips should aid you in locating the right garage door for you.
