Ie 10 Metro Draws Mixed Public Reactions
Microsoft reveals its new internet browser IE 10 along side with Windows 8 on Tuesday
. And this time, Microsoft really made its mind to catch up with the tablet pc trend, because not only the windows 8 are designed to better suit mobile devices, but the new IE 10 also has a "Metro-style" for tablet users. But it seems not all the customers feel satisfied or content about the changes.
From Windows 8 consumer preview, we can see that the IE 10 is actually two browsers. One is designed for a classic "desktop" user interface and the other for a "Metro-style" experience. The two IE 10 browsers can be switched freely for each other. However, users would not change it to any predecessors like IE 9 because Windows 8 won't support earlier IE versions.
Windows 10s metro style provides a full-screen style internet surfing, which means the browser fills your entire screen. There are no chromed borders and visible controls on the screen, so it would take some time for the new users learn how to navigate. Users with a
computer mouse and
computer keyboard have to right click to reveal the navigation bar on the bottom of the screen. Microsoft explained that this style is to make users focus on the content of a website and free them from the menu tress. Besides, touch-friendly gestures such as swiping left or right work on touch-capable devices.
Although it is indeed intuitive for tablet users, Microsoft seems to neglect users with classic laptops and desktops. Some users complained about this because all web browsers can be full screen. Just press F11, and we can get full screen style as we want. "Metro-style IE10 is good for touch users, but why would I want a plugin-free, Metro-style IE10 when I can have the full capabilities of a desktop browser and a chromeless browsing experience simply by pressing F11 in the desktop browser?" a user complained.
Some other users complained about the multiple tab issues. Like I said in the above paragraph, therere no tabs or menus seen when surfing on the internet. For heavy tab users, this is very convenient and insufficient. Steven Sinofsky, president of Microsoft's Windows and Windows Live Division recommended heavy tab users to use the desktop IE 10 browser. But there is a new tab feature in IE 10 that being appreciated: "InPrivate tab. An InPrivate tab can protect your privacy leaving no history, cookies, or cached data.
The metro version of IE 10 is designed to make web-browsing more accessible to touch-friendly devices, and it does. But for other users of desktops and laptops, the changes of the new IE would be just confusing and inefficient. And it may become an obstacle of Windows 8 because it is the only IE can be used on Windows 8.
