If you're absolutely concerned that the order gets stopped as soon as possible then calling is probably the best idea. That way you talk to someone directly at the company and then can make sure that someone is actively taking action to stop the shipment. They may prefer that you use an online system however if that is an option.

Some courier companies will have a large login area where people that have accounts with the courier company can access a number of different functions including placing orders, tracking their shipments, and putting in special requests. One of the types of requests that people can place in these areas sometimes includes things like putting a stop order on a shipment. If your courier is set up like this, the entire process will be automated, ensuring that nothing can go wrong. Once you flag your shipment in the system to be stopped, the instructions will be instantly uploaded to the driver of your vehicle so that they know that they have to stop delivery on your package. Keep in mind that you will be billed for return shipping to your location in most instances.
