If You Want Something Stop Chasing It

Many people take for granted the ability to press a button on their keyless remote

and unlock their car doors as they leave the office at the end of the day. After an exhausting day of meetings, telephone calls, and emails added to the projects and deadlines of the workday, it is easy to subconsciously reach for the car key remote without thinking and slump into the drivers seat for the commute home. After sliding the key into the ignition and turning over the engine, there are some people that switch off their brain and automatically drive home while still thinking about their day.

Unaware of how they arrived at their destination or whether they managed to obey any of the traffic laws the tired person steps over the threshold of their home and puts their keys on a hook or in a dish near the entryway, and forgets about them. Or so they think. While preparing to return to the office the following morning it suddenly becomes apparent that the keys are not where they ought to be and have turned up missing. After a frantic search of the house the person grabs a spare set of keys from the nightstand in the bedroom and races out the door in a frenzied panic, now late for work.

Upon returning home once more at the end of the day, the missing keys are forgotten and while there is a good chance that they will turn up, no thought is given to them. Days pass into weeks and then something triggers the thought that one set of keys and remotes is still unaccounted for. Concerned about replacing the lost car key remote and the transponder key that will turn over the engine, the person searches the internet for a car key replacement. Finding the same make and model of transponder key that matches their vehicle they order the car key replacement and an additional car key remote to make up for the set that was lost.

After programming the new car key replacement transponder and remote at the local dealership the person is able to sleep soundly again knowing that they have a second complete set of keys in an emergency. And as fate would have it, now that the set of keys, which had been missing for weeks, magically reappears within a couple of days of the new car key replacement being coded for the ignition system of the car. It is a funny trick of the universe that the minute someone gives up on chasing the thing that they so desperately seek that it immediately comes to them. Call it irony if you want to, but when you stop looking for your keys, that is when you will find them.
