Ignition Switch Brings Your Car To Life

When you go out for a drive, you turn on your car by the key and lock system

. You simply insert the key in the slot provided, and off you go. Seems quite simple, isnt it? In fact, it is not as simple as it seems, a very complex procedure is set into action as a cascade of events initiate in the cars ignition system as soon as you turn the keys around. But how exactly does this ignition switch bring your car to life?

The ignition slot is the main triggering part of the ignition switch, when it is turned on with the help of a key or start up button; it starts a series of events in the ignition system to which it is connected on the external. Once started, it starts the burning up of the fuel present in the car; which is a manual process because if it was set to auto the car would always be accelerated and in motion, which we obviously dont want. So an ignition switch is required to control the use of this fuel according to our need.

The ignition switch starts up by turning on of the ignition slot which consists of a switch which is turned on by a key or in case of a keyless ignition system, by a code patch. Either way, the main purpose is to start the ignition system. The same key or code patch is used to turn the system off. However, there are many restrictions and limitations in the functioning of the ignition switch and it may be retarded in case the wheels of your car are jammed against the curb through which it moves about. To overcome this problem, the wheel should be adjusted to free it. The car shouldnt be in the running mode and parking brakes be applied when you are trying to fix the problem because there are chances that it will go on rolling further against the curb. In this way, the lock up can be reversed.

If this doesnt work, the parking brakes should be released, instead the car should be rocked slightly with the help of the foot pedal.

The ignition switch has several parts. The ignitions lock present on the exterior has two parts, a lock cylinder and an electrical portion. The lock cylinder is primarily concerned with safety and security. It requires a specific key for its start up and in case it is not the right one the ignition system will not start and in this way the engine wont turn on and the car cannot be started and cant be driven. It acts as an anti-theft system as there is only one key allotted for this ignition cylinder.
