Iim Lucknow Confers Diploma To 316 Students
THE CONVOCATION of Indian Institute of Management Lucknow saw 316 students being
awarded their diplomas by Dr Devi Singh, director IIM Lucknow and Meleveetil Damodaran, ex-chairman, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) who was the chief guest on the occasion and delivered the convocation address.
Two hundred and ninety-eight students from the 24th batch of Post Graduate Programme in Management, 18 students from the fifth batch of Post Graduate Programme in Agri-business Management and four students from the fellow programme were awarded their diplomas at the convocation. And as graduates, they are about to swell the ranks of about 3500 IIML alumni, whose continuing support helps build the institute's ongoing reputation and community support.
Ramya S was awarded with the Chairmans Gold Medal along with Reshma Sareen Memorial Medal for Best Girl Student, while M Yugandhar received the Directors Gold medal. The other awards included PGP Chairmans Medal which was received by Ram Kishan Agrawal, Budhiraja Medal for Best All Rounder went to Sharat Chander and Bizkool Medal for the Best Student in Information Technology was awarded to Ashutosh Agarwal.
At IIM Lucknow we adopt a holistic approach to management education. Each graduating student is trained to be a manager of today and a leader of tomorrow, someone who governs with essence of conscientiousness and has a dynamic approach to any kind of situation at any level of organization, says Dr Devi Singh, director, IIM Lucknow.
During the academic year 2009-10, the institute witnessed an all-round growth and in continuance with its march ahead, undertook some significant initiatives, which are listed below:
The Noida campus of the institute launched its fifth working managers programme (WMP) and international programme in management for executives (IPMX). A batch of 52 students in WMP programme successfully completed the course during the year.
About 92 research contributions, in the form of books, book chapters, book reviews, published papers, conference/seminar papers, case studies and working papers, have already been published during the year so far. Several research contributions of faculty members received national and international recognition and bagged prestigious awards.
Work on a large number of research projects and consultancy assignments was taken up / completed during the year. Six consultancy assignments have been completed so far and 15 are in progress. Six research projects have been completed.
Five new faculty members joined the institute during the year.Eight five management development programmes, for 1800 top and senior level management executives, have already been conducted so far, generating a revenue of in excess of Rs 14.00 crores. The MDPs are attracting many international participants and IIML is also receiving requests for conducting programmes abroad. The state-of-the-art new MDP centre with more class rooms and other infrastructure facilities has been operational. Keeping in view the over-subscription to the originally launched programmes, number of open programmes have been repeatedly conducted.
Two advanced management programmes (AMP) of five weeks duration with Overseas learning component in Europe, were held. Three AMP programmes for RBI executives were held for two weeks in India, Singapore and Malaysia. A three month management programme has been finalised for next five years with Railway Board to train more than 100 executives every year.
The institute launched its seventh six months general management programme for defence officers.
IIML's international academic collaborations with many partner institutions in Europe and North America gained further momentum during the year. IIML has international partnerships with 24 institutes. This year, IIML had 25 students from partner institutions on campus. IIML also sent 43 of its students to partner institutions abroad. IIML has also started a process of benchmarking with its international partners to adopt the best practices in the global business school arena.
As part of social responsibility to the society, IIM Lucknow is contributing towards the training of trainers. In this direction, programmes have been conducted for teachers of management institutes, principals of various schools and colleges.
In order to provide financial support to the needy and meritorious students, IIM Lucknow continues to offer large number of scholarships. During the year 2009-10, Rs 42.75 lakh worth of need based scholarships were disbursed among 55 students.
The library continues to grow by leaps and bounds in terms of learning resources, facilities and services. To keep abreast with the latest state-of-the-art technology, IIML has implemented digital knowledge repository using open source software green stone digital library (GSDL), which is a repository of faculty research papers, conference papers, book chapters, archival collection of metamorphosis, IIML newsletter etc. IIML has also implemented RFID technology in the library, a more sophisticated circulation system using touch screen technology. The institute boasts of a vibrant and active student body, enriching the campus life with variety of professional and cultural activities.
Manfest 2010- IIM Lucknow's annual business conclave has metamorphosed into one of the largest and most awaited events across all B-schools in the country. This year Manfest, organised during January 22 to 24, 2010, was woven around the theme India : Expect, Explore, Experience, a theme that finds much of its relevance in todays world wherein there is heightened awareness about bolstering current growth while reinforcing future prospects. The event was a big hit, with large number of participants from many business schools across the country and abroad. Stalwarts from the industry, media and academics shared their thoughts and mantra of success with the students of IIM Lucknow.
Over the past decade, index information through disguised experimentation has been a great platform towards providing students of IIM Lucknow the opportunity of working on live corporate projects. The 15th edition of Index, organised during November 28 and 29, 2009, saw participation of major players in the FMCG and banking industry J&J, Tanishq, Idea Cellular, Diageo, Pepsi, Nokia, TVS, etc.
