. There are many factors and influences in our lives that lead us to make decisions. Marketing has a huge influence in the society we live in today. Here are three ways that marketing can influence us.
1) Impulse Buying There is a great game I like to play with my kids. I watch their reactions to television advertising and then quietly record how many products they just "have to have" in an hour. It is amazing how well the marketers do in getting a perfectly happy person to desire so much unneeded stuff. The impact of impulse shopping is also easily noticed in the mall atmosphere. Shoppers will wonder from window to window and point out to things they knew nothing about moments ago and now must have. It is amazing.
2) Brand Awareness I am sure you can easily write out a decent sized list of name brands. Either the product names you use daily or are aware of from marketing. These brands are tied into our product use in such a way that we build loyalty to them. Most items could be replaced with a budget brand and not be noticed. That is if you put them in the name brand packaging.
3) Overspending Christmas time is a great example of the overspending issue. Marketing is so heavy during the holiday season. Marketers know that almost half of retail sales can come from this time of year and they are all trying to get their share of the purchases. We are inundated with marketing from all angles and almost made to feel guilty if you are not out there spending yourself into oblivion.
The impact of marketing in the society today is a powerful one. We are so accustomed to being marketed, that we don't even notice it anymore. The prospect of joining this system is a daunting one and the learning curve can be burdensome. The right mentoring and marketing system can make all of the difference.
