Green and co-authored by Dr. Gary E Roberts pits government leadership personnel-and the decisions they make-against the frustrated and disgruntled citizens they serve. Essentially, the book delves into serious political issues that have given rise to increasing discontent in the public sphere. The coauthors tactfully convey that systematic change in Washington is necessary. Dr. Roberts sums it up in one sentence: "One of the great political divides of our time is the intense, polarizing, and often rancorous debate over the proper size, role and scope of government. This debate occurs between and within those on all sides of the political spectrum."

Impending Danger references the 2009 Rasmussen survey that demonstrated extreme dissatisfaction with leaders from both major political parties. The authors discuss public displeasure using examples such as the bailout of financial institutions and the government's assistance in the auto industry. At this point in time, it may only be a matter of time before the public takes matters into its own hand. In the words of the authors, "Can government leaders continue to ignore their constituents or how long with the American people tolerate it?"

Divided into three sections-"Exploring the Quagmire of Problems," "Reshaping a New Government Model" and "Retooling Leadership for the Future"-Impending Danger suggests that a change in leadership and structure may be inevitable. In an already uncertain economy and environment, 90% of six thousand federal executives will likely be retiring within the next decade. Based on this astounding statistic, one can only conjure the state of federal leadership when Baby Boomers relinquish their positions of power and retire. Also, whether or not Baby Boomers will want to abdicate their positions of power and control is another consideration.

Today, the employer-employee relationship is a microcosm of the relationship between the government and the public. Today, workers have little to no trust in management in the same way that the government is rapidly losing the trust of its citizens. Ultimately, the workforce and the country in general try to incorporate the beliefs and values of four different generations spanning the modern to post-modern population. Though it will not be easy, Impending Danger points the audience in the right direction, helping it to acknowledge the need for systematic leadership change. Indeed, Impending Danger addresses the fundamental problems that face the modern American system of government.
