The purchasing of new courier software for a delivery company can represent a major shift
, especially if they are not just purchasing an upgrade to an existing program but revamping their entire system. Courier delivery software is now a major part of what keeps a courier company running smoothly, as all dispatches are done electronically, many orders are placed electronically, billing and invoicing are integrated into the electronic billing, and most tracking and proof of delivery notifications are linked to the mobiles units carried by the drivers which are integrated with that same software.
When a courier company first purchases new software, the first phase of implementing that program is going to be testing. Before they simply install the new program across the board, it is very crucial that a courier company first install it on a small scale to test all its features and make sure it work as planned. This includes testing all the online functionality the software might bring them in a beta site, and testing some of their drivers handheld units with the updated software.
Training is probably the most important feature of implementing new dispatch software, because if the people at the company don't know how to use it properly it is only going to cause problems instead of making the company run more efficiently as is anticipated with the purchase. Drivers and office workers need to both learn how to use the systems in the course of their own jobs, but also how to troubleshoot if anything should go wrong, and how to answer customer questions about the new software.
The final step is actually rolling out the new program and features to the public. Existing customer of the company will be happy to see the new features that their company is making available to them, and will need to be taught how to use the new features of the software which are presented customer side, such as any online tools or portals for the customer's use. The new software can also play an important part of recruiting new sales into the courier company. Marketing material of all kinds will need to be rewritten, especially the website, so that the courier is making sure to advertise all of the features that they present to those customers including those which may have been newly introduced in the new software update like GPS tracking or a way for customers to place orders instantly online.
