Copyright (c) 2011 Alison WithersIf you are running any type of business whether it is a grocery store, a restaurant, a book store or any computer hardware shop, you will need a bar code prescription for your business product. We find thermal transfer ribbons to be very common in producing thermal transfer labels. Similarly, one of the most common ways to label products is to use bar codes also known as zebra tags. In the current age, you can find how important bar codes are. No matter in which shop or store you go for shopping, you will find the items with zebra tags on them. Bar tags represents a column wise pattern. The column is divided in different line sectioning and every line indicates one of a number from 0 to 9. This specifies the item stock and helps the shopkeeper to maintain the inventory of that specific product. This helps the shopkeeper to control and manage the inventory of the store. There are also dates mentioned on the barcodes which helps the shopkeeper to identity the expiry of the product. This helps them to identify the time for the replacement of the stock. Let us discuss the history and roots of their origin to get a better idea on the importance of barcodes.Roots of Barcodes The origin system took place in the year 1932 when Mr. Wallace Flint invented a check out system which was based on the marked cards. These cards helped the shop keeper to check in and out coming of different products that are placed inside the shop. After that, the next stage of invention took place in the year 1948 when Mr. Bernard Silver invented an automatic product reading system. This system was based on applying the ultraviolet light rays on products to print a light-sensitive pattern on it. But with time this method was no longer used because it was very costly and less effective on the purpose. And finally, it was in 1967 when Mr. David J Collins developed a linear coding method. This is the time when bar codes were implemented in the real sense. These tags were based on linear patterned lines with a vertical section wise distribution. The color for the tags was kept black and white in order to avoid printing problems. The problem of unstable was eradicated and the people finally applied this significant invention in their normal day life. Later with time, this method became common in the industrial sector for production, stocking and distribution procedures. The modern-day convenience:Today, we find that this system to be very common in businesses. Business people find it a very bright method to maintain their routine database. Any item which is having a bar code stamp means that it is having a small data base. Currently, two-dimensional bar codes are very famous as they can retrieve all the information regarding the cost, type and the serial number of the item. This helps the stock keepers to arrange the products in the right order. With the invention of this method, storing and stocking has become less hectic.
