Importance Of Blind Rivet Nuts

A rivet nut, popularly known as blind nut or rivnut

, is a single piece internally threaded tubular rivet that can easily be fastened from one side. First developed by BF Goodrich in late 1930s, it was initially used to mount rubber deicing boots to aircrafts but soon became popular in automobile industry. Today, there are two types of rivet nuts: one of the types is used to form a bulge on the back side of the panel. The other type is drawn into the sleeves and doesnt create a bulge. A rivet nut is mostly made of anodized aluminum and other substances which do not conduct electric current. Today, there are number of different rivet nuts available in various sizes and shapes.

They are now made of 6053 aluminum alloy, alloy steel, carbon steel, or corrosion resistant steel. A rivet nut can be either countersunk open end, countersunk closed end, or full head open end and full head closed end.

Today, rivet nuts are quite popular as blind rivets.

Blind Rivet nuts: a blind rivet nut comprises of a tubular stainless steel or carbon steel body with a mandrel through its centre. While the worker uses a rivet shot gun to pull the body through, the mandrel keeps the rivet nut in place and allows the remaining piece to come off. This allows the mandrel head to be placed firmly and secures the two objects being joined tightly. Blind rivet nuts are widely used in industrial applications including aircraft manufacturing. In any engineering work where various metals and plastic sheets are attached to one another, rivet nuts are used. Blind rivet nuts are not limited to being used in aircraft or heavy engineering; today, some of the leading sports car and bile manufacturers are also using it with ease.

Interiors of a house, car, ship or the edges of aircraft wings, and any other space where a mans hand cant reach, blind rivets are the only solution. The use of blind rivet nuts is crucial when the back of the object is inaccessible; blind rivet nuts make the task simple and can be easily installed with the help of manual of automatic rivet tool guns.

Some advantages of using blind rivet nuts are:

1.It saves money and time.

2.It utilizes uskilled labor.

3.It produces high quality joints that last longer.

4.It is ideal for blind application work

5.They dont loosen even under severe vibrations.

6.Rivet nuts do not loosen while over torque and do not amount for scratches on the surface of sheets.
