Navigation is an important part of website designing so while deciding website navigation
think as if you are an ordinary person, of course you can do some creative but a well-designed websites tend to have similar navigation layouts. Being a web designer you must always keep in mind the purpose of the website and the intended audience when designing navigation.
Most websites are either to inform the visitors about the service or product or to sell that service or product. So here are some things that should be considered:
Make sure all navigational elements are clearly links by using standard conventions for links such as buttons, menus, underlining the text or changing color on mouse. Remember the Three Click Rule that most professional web designers use. Studies have shown that most users will not click more than three links to get to the information they want. So every page on your website should be reachable within three clicks.
When using non-conventional links, explicitly tell the visitor that this is a link. For example, suppose you design a web page where you want to use a map showing several different cities and want to let the user click on the city name to pull up information about that city. Just make sure you tell the user to click on the city name to get more information about that city.
Navigation element locations generally include Top menus, Left side navigation, Right side navigation, Bottom menus and important navigation element includes:
Login boxes
Internal page links
External links
Order buttons
Shopping carts
Advertisements
Downloadable items
Sitemap
Consider the above things while designing a website and put the navigation links accordingly because if the design of the website is very attractive but the navigation is not clearly mentioned then nobody will come to visit your website for the next time.
