. Once a child is able to cross this particular hurdle, then it means that 75% of his or her basic word knowledge are complete. Teaching sight words is not a difficult task, but how do parents and teachers help in the developing the sight words.
Consider it as how to teach multiplication facts. All the child requires is the constant guidance of an adult who will sit and teach him or her. The following are some of the methods used in teaching sight words.
* Teaching with Pictures:- We always connect certain words with pictures. Basically, this is the strangest part. Many of us visualize what we want to learn by solidifying the information in our memory in the form of visuals. Flashcards and posters filled with colorful pictures and words are the best word teaching tools for teaching sight words.
* Saying and Listening to Sight Words:- This is something that you really to understand. Sight words are not always used in writing. Most of the time they are used in the vocabulary of children. So children must be able to say and listen to the sight words. It can be easily done by pointing at the word and repeating it many times until the child understands.
* Repeating the Sight Words:- Children can never grasp words if they are repeated once. If a particular word is continuously repeated, they will easily be able to understand it. Small children don't have the best grasping power. So a word has to be repeated many times in order to get it fixed in the minds of kids. It is quite different from how to teach multiplication facts.
* Using in Context:- Teaching sight words are best remembered when they are often used in a context. Basically it means when it is used in a natural flow. Rather than creating situations and examples of using the word, children will easily pick up the words if they are used in normal conversation. By that way, children can easily understand the meaning of the word and in what context they can be used.
