, there seems to be a need for ways to perfect the staycation experience for the whole family. Staycations can be pretty rewarding if a number of rules are set and agreed to by all family members. Staycation provides the opportunity experience your home in a different manner.

Similar to people renting your home for self-catering, staycation lets you enjoy your your own home. Staycation is a recent development and has quickly evolved largely necessitated by the prevailing economic situation. The advantages of a staycation are many but nothing beats the fun of having lots of cash to spent on food, drink and activities instead of burning it on long commute in vacations.

Set a budget

Staycation budget must be set for every day and carried over if not used. Staycation budget usually pays for drinks, park entry fees, food and gas if you have to travel. This means that saving some money for staycation makes plenty of sense.

Decide on activities

Every family member should select an activity for the day. Teens should be allowed to select their preferred way of spending the day whether at the park or some fun place such as ice rink or in the cinema. Small kids may want the beach, play in the rain or visit a local zoo or theme park. Parents also get to select, dad may want a boozy pub lunch followed by fishing, sunbathing and the like.

Whatever your style and ideal holiday preference, enact it to your hearts content.

The Staycation boundaries

Booking a two night accommodation doesn't fit into the staycation bill, irrespective of the destination, home turf or whatever, the mere act of driving to the accommodation disqualifies that from staycationing. Spending the night away at a local B&B is acceptable since that could be moms idea of a perfect get-away but then limit it to a single night.

Staycations must be home based and that's how the urban dictionary defines it.

Switch off Completely

Unplug the TV, lock away the computer and try to imagine you're staying in a remote Mexican hacienda, where all you see is coffee, bean collectors in wide hats and tortilla and tequila. Staycation should be time to reflect and rejuvenate and put worries of work at rest.

Try not to worry too much about the unfixed floor or the peeling wall paint during this time, people don't do that on holidays so why should you? simply put - stay away from any attempts at fixing the fridge or tending to any routine domestic chore(s).

The mainline phone must not be answered during this time - let voice-mail pickup your calls, cellphones should only be used in case of an emergency. Inform your folks of your staycation plans and let them know that no phone calls will be answered unless it's an emergency.

This includes receiving visitors at home too. Think of no longer straining to understand the distant connection of a call center salesperson dwelling on the inaccuracies of how you manage your overdraft.
