Important Things That Should Be Known About Rescue Groups And Golden Retriever Adoption
Puppy care can be overwhelming, yet it can be made more difficult with the higher instances of illnesses because of poor breeding
. A diseased puppy with a potentially shortened lifespan, or lifelong debilitation, can be even harder to handle. Golden retrievers are one of the most commonly owned breeds in the United States. Their popularity has resulted in the retriever being associated with many illnesses and the most common one is hip dysplasia. Because of the increase in abandonment of pets, there are more available for golden retriever adoption from rescue groups.
Many people see a cute puppy or beautiful dog and for aesthetic reasons decide that's the dog they want, without checking into the typical characteristics of the breed. The problem with that is that choosing a breed because of looks or cuteness can lead to disaster and people don't know what they're getting into when acquiring an adorable little puppy. They are cute, but as they grow up they need training to keep from being a nuisance. The time and energy necessary for such instruction is often too much for inexperienced dog owners, ultimately leading to either neglecting, or abandoning their dog.
Golden retrievers have such a pleasant and amiable personality that it's sad, unfortunate, and almost unbelievable that they get neglected and abused. The problem often lies in inexperienced owners that don't train their dog or give them affection, often causing the owner frustration if it acts up which sometimes leading to abuse of the unfortunate animal.
Handling abused and neglected dogs can be difficult. After being rescued from a shelter, they often don't have the typical friendly, loving personality of a golden. Usually they are scared and nervous, often leading to behavioral problems. When rescue groups try to get a dog adopted, sometimes these issues can be an obstacle.
Golden retriever rescue groups (located in most states) find dogs that have been abandoned, abused or neglected and are often relegated to the pound. Unfortunately, dogs in animal shelters are at risk for euthanasia, therefore a rescue group frees the dog from the pound and puts those dogs up for adoption.
Adoption from a rescue group is a cheaper alternative to a breeder, but often there are a few behavioral issues that must be resolved, not to mention the probable health issues that were developed.
While an economical choice for getting a golden retriever, there are many requirements to be able to adopt a golden. There is always a required application and interviews. Their goal is to ensure that there will be plenty of attention given and a home environment that is healthy with lots of room.
A great number of golden retrievers have been saved and placed in wonderful homes by rescue groups. Golden retriever adoption through these groups requires being more educated and prepared to create a loving environment for the new dog. Ultimately the patience and love of a good family will nurse the golden's disposition back to the pleasant, amiable, and loving dog that is typical of the breed. The wonderful work these groups do would be worth making a larger donation for adoption because it would benefit man's best friend.
