This a great choice because a pit bike is great for beginners. It is easier to use, store, transport and keep maintained. However, there are many thing you should know before purchasing your first pit bike. I know many people who have gotten over excited and ran to there computers. Next thing you know they have spent three grand on a pit bike that they can't even use. This is not a situation you want to be. Fortunately, all you have to do is understand a few tips to avoid making this embarrassing mistake.
You don't have to be a pit bike expert to make a good choice when selecting a bike. Often, knowing the basics is often enough to make a superb choice and save your self a lot of trouble. The first thing you want to consider is who are you buying this bike for. If your want to get your kids involved in motor sports you will be buying a completely different bike than you would purchase for yourself.
If your are buying for a child or young adult I highly advise buying a pit bike in the lower power range. If you buy a pit bike that is to powerful for a younger person it is very likely they will find some way to get hurt. They usually will not have the coordination or common sesne to properly use a more powerful motorbike.
When you are buying a pit bike, be sure to check the power of the engine. 50 cc is a good power range for a beginner. If you are a quick learned however, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 125 cc pit bike. Another thing to make sure of is that it is fully equipped. Its extremely easy for a beginner to see a cheaper priced pit bike that looks fully assembled and end up buying a bike that is missing a few crucial pieces.
Lastly, even though it may seem like common sense. Please...please, sit on the pit bike. Many pit bikes are designed for different sized people. Keep this mind when purchasing a pit bike.
