Improve Your Flight Simulator Experience With Multiple Displays
The most important thing if you are a serious flight simulator enthusiast is creating an experience that is as close to realistic as possible
. First you need to ensure that your computer is performing well, with enough memory, processor speed and a powerful video card.
When the computer is all set then you have to look at the basic controls. You need to make sure you have a flight simulator yoke or joystick (depending on the aircraft you plan to fly) and rudder pedals at a very minimum. Now, after the computer and controls are correct, you can focus your attention on how the graphics are displayed.
The display is a critical part of your flight simulator setup. The displays are your windows to the simulated world. The more realistic you can make your home cockpit the better. This obviously requires some planning. Obviously one monitor in the middle of your desk is only going to go so far in creating the experience that you are in a cockpit flying through the skies.
Compare the one display setup with having three displays setup, one in the middle, one for the left and one for the right views. The next step is to imagine that the displays are actually at the right height, as they'd be in a real cockpit, and you are not looking too far up or down. The costs of displays are so low these days that with a video card that supports multiple monitors, and a little space, you can easily create a more realistic view into the simulated world.
Forget you work desk, the best option is to set aside an area just for your flight simulator. This means having a dedicated pc and displays setup for your home flying. The advantage of a dedicated setup is that you can position the displays so that you are able to block distractions as well as enclose the cockpit. If you are able to hook up three displays, you can then close in the rest of the area so that your entire vision is taken up by the flight simulator displays. You will find it is actually quite easy to create a very realistic feeling of being in your own cockpit.
