Improving The Energy Performance Of Buildings
Buildings in the UK are responsible to nearly 50% of the countrys carbon emissions and energy consumption
. This is a staggering figure and with this in mind the Government has been taking positive steps in trying to reduce carbon emissions to 0 by the year 2050. To achieve this figure there are things that owners of residential and commercial properties need to do and one of them is to look at how to improve the energy performance of their buildings. CR Energy can help owners of properties by carrying out an Energy Assessment through a trained Energy Assessor.
Here are a few things that can be done help to improve the energy performance of buildings:
Have an Energy Assessment carried out, these can be for domestic or residential properties/buildings. They are carried out by a Domestic Energy Assessor who is fully trained with a HI/DEA certificate or a Non-Domestic Energy Assessor who can be qualified to one of three levels from Level 3 to Level 5. Once the Energy Assessment has been carried out the owner of the property/building or the agent responsible for it will receive an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) which will give it a rating from A-G for its efficiency. The Energy Assessor can also provide any recommendations which can improve the efficiency of the building which can then be put into practice.
Display Certificates for every public building these will show people the actual energy usage of that building and it will give this as an Operational Rating. This Operational Rating is calculated by measuring all the energy which is consumed within the building whilst it is running normally this takes into accounts things such as: lighting, cooling, heating, ventilation, appliances and more.
Take notice of any energy efficiency recommendations that are put forward in the EPC by the Energy Assessor and put them into practice. At the moment no one is under any obligation to make these changes, but making them will vastly improve the energy performance of the building the recommendations were made on and therefore cut down on carbon emissions and reduce wasted energy.
Have all boilers, air conditioning systems and heating systems regularly checked for their efficiency and carbon emissions. If there is any change act on it.
Builders of new houses should also bear in mind the energy performance of that building and ensure that it is well insulated and energy-efficient. This means that anyone who purchases a new build property, should in theory be buying a property that has excellent energy performance. Care should then be taken at any appliances bought are also energy-efficient.
CR Energy are at the forefront of Domestic and Non-Domestic Energy Assessment and are committed to delivering the Governments carbon emissions legislations. Anyone who is looking for help and advice on improving the energy performance of their building should speak to CR Energy and have an Energy Assessment performed on the building. Any recommendations that are made can be acted upon to create a building with excellent energy performance. Everyone should be concerned about carbon emissions from their buildings and the impact they have on the environment. Today thanks to CR Energy everyone can be responsible for the energy performance of their building and be proactive in making any changes to increase its performance and reduce carbon emissions.
