Improving The Speed Of Your Computer

One of the first things you should do after you purchase your new computer is to delete any unnecessary programs off of the hard drive

. Computers come with several pre-installed programs that you will never use, and most are just demos that you have to buy to get the full, usable version of the program.

These are easy to uninstall, and will free up quite a bit of RAM space allowing you to have more room for other programs that you actually will use, and will make your computer perform faster. Some of those pesky programs include Picture and Video editor demos. Unless you are planning to upgrade to the full version, get rid of it because media programs take up the most amount of space on your hard drive.

To remove any unwanted programs, simply go the the Control Panel via the Start menu. Once in the Control Panel, click on "Add/Remove Programs" and sort through the list of programs on your hard drive. Find the unnecessary or unused programs and click on "Uninstall/Remove" to get that program off of your hard drive.

Removing excess programs that aren't necessary for your computer and you don't use can free up some much needed space on your hard drive and allow your computer to run other programs more quickly and easily. While deleting programs, make sure you don't delete important programs like anti-virus software, Microsoft Office tools, Internet Explorer, Intel or Apple processor software, or any other programs that are necessary to run your computer correctly.

After uninstalling those programs from your control panel, be sure that you only install programs on your computer that are necessary and frequently usable. Do not just download any program off of web-sites because they are "FREE!"

This may take up a lot of space on your hard drive and slow down your entire system. In addition to the slower speed and used space, programs from internet sites may contain viruses that can infect your computer.

Viruses can not only slow down your computer, but will destroy files and the mother-board, making it completely unusable. This will cause all of the information on your computer to be lost indefinitely and you will have to get the computer reset back to its factory condition, or just replace it completely.

The bottom line is do not download software from insecure sites on the internet; not for games, soft-ware or anything else that is offered to you.

Another way to increase the speed of your computer is to delete your cookies and browsing history on the internet. Every website you visit, search you enter, or password you type is saved on your computer's memory. Since we can visit hundreds of different sites on any given day, our browsing history folder builds up fast and can take up a lot of memory on the computer.

Deleting these folders not only makes your computer faster, but protects your personal information as well. If you do not delete the history and cookies, anyone can go onto your computer and see exactly what sites you visited and when; they can also find out your user names and passwords that you have typed into websites.

This can very dangerous, so make sure you delete your browsing history and cookies on a daily basis. To do this, simply open up your web browser and under "Tools" click on "Clear Recent History," or open up "Page Safety" and click on "Delete Browsing History." This will make sure your history and all of your searches, passwords, and user names are erased from your computer's history.

Take all of these preventative measures to make your computer run faster, avoid viruses, and to make sure that all of your information is safe from hackers.
