In Depth Knowledge Of Hard Cast and Lead Bullets

Many times, many of us refer to the hard cast bullets as lead bullets' but hardly do we realize the drastic differences between them. Actually, this generalization is inaccurate; it's as inaccurate as generalizing all motor vehicles as Volkswagens! Talking of hard cast bullets, they might contain some lead and would be grey in color but it is here that the similarities stop. Technically, these hard cast bullets can be formed of numerous alloy mixtures such as silver, antimony, tin, etc along with some lead but these alloys make the bullet harder than pure lead bullets. While on one hand, pure lead bullets have a Brinell hardness number of about 4, hard cast bullets on the other hand bear a Brinell hardness number of about 11 on 30; they are as such much heavier than pure lead bullets.

Usually, a hard cast bullet that is properly designed, sized and lubed would not leave the lead alloy deposits in the rifled barrel while a lead bullet would be found almost every time in the barrel to the point of a total loss of accuracy! It might even extend to the limit where the barrel would split or worse. Also, depending on various factors, hard cast bullets would not deform or mushroom' when they affect live tissues while lead bullets would deform at low speeds. Pure lead bullets would deform and penetrate much lesser than the hard cast ones which maintain their shape and penetrate deep enough. So, basically, hard cast bullets are useful with hunting and dangerous games where deep penetrations are required while pure lead bullets maintains its uniformity and lacks brittleness, penetrating optimally.

Protect Your Bullets

Having understood how important both hard cast and pure lead bullets are, it is vital to know their ideal storage method. The biggest threat to these bullets is moisture. When rust deposits are noticed on the outer shell of the ammunition, there is a high possibility of it penetrating to the deeper levels of the casting. This means the moisture has entered into the shell interiors rendering the gunpowder useless. Obviously such a bullet wouldn't fire. This is where one needs to invest in a good plastic ammo box for such a box doesn't permit moisture to enter the box and bullets.

Thus, moisture is the number one reason why the ammunition needs to be stored well in an ammo box rather than preserving them in an open bucket. Basically, the container where the bullets are stored must be cool and dry and plastic boxes are great for this, especially the ones that close protecting the elements. In the online markets, one can obtain beautiful, different sized, shaped and colored ammo boxes. Maintain the shelf life of your ammunitions with the help of a good ammo box.
