Incorporating Crystal Chandeliers In Home Lighting Design
The trick with setting the mood in your home is to find the appropriate lights
. You need the perfect blend of ambient, accent, and task illumination. You should first consider the essential goals to your fixture renovation. That is the best way to find a place for any particular pieces you want to incorporate, such as crystal chandeliers.
What is your overall mission for this renovation? Do you want to make a statement or do you want traditional? Do you want a pop of color or consistency? These questions are very important when deciding how to implement new elements to a room. Crystal chandeliers carry a lot of character. You can use them for just about any design concept, as long as you know how to place them.
Take, for example, the first question. For bold and interesting conversation pieces you will want an extravagant fixture. Make sure you place it in an interesting location. Unexpected places, such as above a countertop kitchen bar, or off in the corner of a room over a lounge chair, are more interesting spots than dead center above a coffee or dining table; whereas the latter are traditional placement choices.
The next is whether or not you're using these lights to add color dimension to your room. While the chandeliers themselves will not be the source of the color, they allow light to reflect and refract in very different ways, giving an illusion that more colors exist in the room than they actually do. The warm glow and shimmering provided by the crystals will add dimension to rooms with monochromatic color palettes, and add an extra pop to those rooms with diversity.
As for consistency, if you want to keep the lighting simpler, place the chandelier in a portion of the room where the light won't directly hit. That way you get the warm glow but it will act more as an ambience rather than task or accent.
The key to successfully incorporating a larger fixture into the decorative mix is knowing whether to make it the centerpiece or not. Just because it is slightly bigger in size than, say, a table lamp, doesn't mean that it absolutely has to be the focal point in the room. Aesthetics are about emphasis. As discussed in the previous paragraphs, placement plays a major role in design. Always cue on proportion and space. Negative space in a room can be filled using these items. Crowded spaces can appear bigger when you direct the light in certain ways. See what you can do with it.
