Starting a new website? What are the things you would do to increase site traffic

? The most important function for me is my keyword research. I need to formulate a good SEO plan that goes along with my research.

Why take a brand new website and just put up pages without having any kind of plan set up. When you do your keyword research it involves 3 things: the search volume, who are you going after and what is your competition. When you just half hazardly put up web pages without a defined SEO plan, a half a year will go by and you'll ask yourself why you don't have any site visitors. The reason why you don't have any site visitors is because you didn't take the time to put together a well thought out SEO plan. I find that there are two things that people leave out of their keyword research. They are using words that don't have any traffic or they picked a keyword that has so much competition that they couldn't rank for it even if they tried.

When you start a new website, take more time to develop your keywords. Examine the keywords in depth. When you do this before you write any of your content you'll have a better success rate because you'll know what you're going after. Now you have something to measure your success by. Now take a look at the search terms and see how many times it is searched. Now you'll have a good idea of how much work you have to do before you get a good ranking. Once you have that step done, you have a good idea of how much traffic to expect and just how much time it will take you to achieve your goal.

It's a pretty simple plan that I set up that I get into the habit of doing every time I start a brand new website. When people seek out advice from others in this area, the expert 9 times out of 10 will get this wrong. I don't understand why an expert would leave keyword research out of a project. To me it just doesn't make sense.

Websites are pretty straightforward and you'll have either an ecommerce website or one that has a sales letter. The ecommerce website would be easier to come up with keywords for in my opinion. I'd go after the longer tailed keywords for the ecommerce web site. With a good plan, you'll rank in no time flat, probably a lot faster than the sales page.

The sales letter will not have as many pages. In order to rank well, I have to figure out who would be interested in buying that product. You can always do some free traffic generation methods.

Last, come up with a good list of keywords that will work best for your site. After this is done, you're well on your way to increase site traffic for your brand new web site.
