Increase Your Home Security In Alabama Before Leaving On Vacation

During the winter months, a lot of Alabama residents travel outside of the state for vacation

Many residents enjoy getting out of the area so they can relax in other places while lying on the beach or skiing down some mountains, but unfortunately, their houses are at a much greater risk of being robbed while they are away. People often have so many different things on their minds as they pack to go away on their vacations, but far too frequently, they dont think about their home security. If you dont take some important steps to make your property safer while youre away, then chances are good that thieves may recognize that your house is an easy target, and they may try to break in and steal from you. The next time you plan to leave your Alabama property alone for a few days or weeks, make sure you improve your home security first by taking a few of the following precautions.

1. Turn off your water. If you dont use your water pipes for awhile, they may freeze up during the cold winter months. Even Alabama is not immune from the effects of cold weather, and if a cold storm comes through and freezes your pipes, they will burst and cause your house to flood. Broken pipes alert thieves to the likelihood that no one is at your house, and that makes your property much more appealing to people who want to break in.

2. Alert your trusted neighbors. Let your friends and family members know where youre going and how long youll be gone. Then, if something suspicious happens at your house, the people you trust will know they need to make sure everything is alright. If a thief is on your property, a trusted neighbor may be able to report them before anything serious happens. Its also always a good idea to make sure some of your loved ones know where you are.

3. Ask someone to pick up your mail and newspapers on a daily basis. If you dont have a friend, family member or neighbor who will do that for you for free, you can pay someone to stop by your house on a daily basis. Make sure you dont let your newspapers or mail pile up outside while youre away because that sends a clear signal to criminals that youre probably away on vacation, and your property is an easy target.

4. Purchase a comprehensive home alarm system so you can keep your house well-guarded while youre away. Turn your alarm on as you leave town, and then if anything causes it to go off, you can count on the fact that your private home security company will come to your aid. As long as youve given them a number they can reach you at, theyll immediately let you know of any problems at your Alabama house.

5. Have someone turn lights on at your house at night, or rely on a timer system. By utilizing lights at night, you can trick thieves into believing that someone is still at your property so they dont think youre away on vacation. Houses that are continually dark at night invite criminals because they think those houses are unoccupied, but you can keep your home security level high by making sure your house is well-lit at night.
