Increased Usefulness Makes Computers Essential

In today's world, computers are the center where we get most of our work accomplished

. Many of us write articles, read and answer email, order products, create spreadsheets, do our taxes, get recipes, and balance our checking accounts. Computers are becoming even more important in our lives than just work.

From the beginning days of the personal computers, computer games are an important segment of the overall computer industry. Many of the improvements in processor speed, memory availability, video performance and hard drive throughput have all been driven by the need for more powerful hardware to enable computer games to run at their best.

While there have been some improvements made in useability of your basic spreadsheet and your word processing programs, the power necessary for these fundamental computer programs is minute in comparison to the power needed for the computer gaming industry. With a plethora of unused clock cycles, companies are developing applications to further enhance the usefulness of our computers. T.V., radio, blockbuster movies being streamed from the Internet and many other applications are converging to make your computer a center of all activities, not just work but entertainment too.

Improvements in technology are allowing us to take our computers with us when when go places, too. Doctors in hospitals often carry laptops from patient to patient in order to keep track of the data individual to each patient. Considering the value of all the various functions a computer provides for us, the reliability factor of our computers is becoming increasing important.

Laptop computers have increasing performance characteristics making them suitable for use, not only on the road or in mobile situations but also as our home computer too. The centrality with which computing occupies in our lives and the value that we place on data, it is increasingly crucial that even home users give consideration to protecting data. Above all, making sure that you perform regular backups to external data storage is an essential part of data management.

But, what about your portable computer. Isn't it important to make sure that it can withstand the rigors of day-to-day usage? Having a laptop fail just before an upcoming deadline can be a heart stopping experience. For a road warrior, making sure you own a tough, rugged portable computer, is worth the price tag. For a road warrior that uses his/her laptop for both road and home use, a quality, tough laptop really is the best way to go.
