Increasing The Water Pressure In Your Home

As the owner of Jolly Plumbing in Wilder, KY, Barry Jolly now has more than 31 years

of experience serving clients in the greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky areas. Here, Jolly explains what you can do to increase the water pressure in your home.

It Is Possible to Increase Your Water Pressure

It is possible for you to increase the water pressure in your house. And the best part is that you dont have to spend a lot of money. As long as your home has a pressure regulator on it, which most homes do now, all that you have to do is make an adjustment on the pressure regulator that will allow you to increase the water pressure in your home.

Your old water pipes may cause your poor wate pressure. Over time, pipes get more and more clogged with junk and debris. When your pipes are clogged so much that your water pressure has been decreased, it might be time to replace your old pipes. You should start with replacing the water lines in your basement, and work your way to the plumbing fixtures. This is a much bigger job than just adjusting the pressure regulator. However, by changing your water lines, you could definitely increase the water pressure throughout your house.

Too High Water Pressure Can Cause Problems

In general, most people dont know much about what the water pressure levels in their home should be. They just understand how much water they do or dont like coming out of the shower head. Ideally, a good working water pressure in a home should be around 75 pounds. But you dont need to get that level up to more than 100 pounds, because at that point it makes it hard for your fixtures to function properly. Having your water pressure set too high can make it difficult for your toilets or water faucets to shut off, which will cause you a lot of trouble and cost you much.

Because of too high water pressure, your fixtures will have a hard time turning off, leading to increased maintenance issues. That is because the increased water level is putting more pressure on all of your equipments, including your pipes. So if you increase your water pressure level too much, you will have more washers to change, and more leaks and drips to catch and fix. Thats why I dont recommend that anyone adjust the level up to over 100 pounds.
