Indeed a Wondrous Pair in Deed
Mr. P. Gopichand and Miss. P. Nagasuseela, both are lecturers in English in a prestigious college, J.K.C in the city of Guntur, South India. Not only the college or the department of teaching, which they are working in, but also their ideas and ambitions also synchronize with each other. To my surprise, I found that their bio-data is also the same.
Both are bilingual poets, written poems, sonnets, haiku, Zen in English as well as their mother tongue, Telugu. Statistically speaking, so far they have written together, 250 short and long poems in free verse, 1050 haiku, 160 Zen, 80 Sparks, 75 Senolite, 50 Acrostic,100 Wings, 660 haiku on special topics. Translated many poems from Telugu into English and wrote the University lessons for Degree, postgraduate and M.Phil. Courses. In addition, guided 14 students collaborate for M.Phil. Presented more than 60 research papers at National and International Conferences, Seminars, Workshops and Symposia, all combined.
The profiles of both of them have appeared in the IV Volume of Young Asian Admirable Achievers Reference Book. They gained nine gold, twelve silver and eight bronze medals for their Haiku. They bagged Vocational Excellence Award-2010, Bharat Excellence Award-2010 and Best Personalities of India Award-2010 for their combined achievements and accomplishments. They have collectively brought out the collections of their poetry, A Collection of Poems', No Longer at Ease', Sprouts', Mushrooms' and Sparks'. They have jointly edited and published the books, A Posy of Poesy', A Handbook for all Occasions', Indian Drama in English: A Kaleidoscopic View', A Peep into Indian Fiction in English, A Handbook on Phonetics', Conversation Skills', and A Handbook on Grammar'. The most astonished thing is that their website is the same, www.Heart-Throbs.com.
They worked together in their word, in their deed and in their mind!
While participating myself in the International Poetry Fest-2010 conducted by them I got suspicious that they may be a couple. This doubt occurred not only to me, but also too many a participants. Then a mischievous thought of finding difference between them labored in my mind. The result of which, this is the article produced.
The only difference to say is that of their sexuality. Anyone can find it physically. However, they have overcome that difference in performing, organizing, conducting, participating respectively, workshops, seminars, poetry fests and in all of them. To find out the differences if any, one has to go deep into their core thoughts, fortunately, expressed in their individual poetry, which exists but minimal.
Both of them wrote their individual poem relating to word and world. While, Ms. Nagasuseela explores The World of Words', Mr. Gopichand asks to Feel The Word Fill The World'.
She compares the world of words and the words of the world. She solemnly says-
"Console the world with words;
Construct words for the world,
For worlds emerge from words."
The word consoles and constructs the new worlds. Here, the word' stands for the literature. Literature is the sole monarch that changes the world and the ways of the world. Either good or bad, the letters strongly bring change in the minds of the people and there by the society itself. It is quite evident in the history of the human race.
Further, she elucidates,
"The world needs words to flourish;
The world needs words to restore peace;"
These two lines picture the world that relies on the words, for its flourish with peace. The world's peace rests upon the effort of every individual. Hence, the poet asks every one -
"Create your own world with words;
Conform to the world with words
Learn to dance to the tune of words"
Then and only then, the world of words builds our bonds and thereby builds the edifice of fraternity and peace on the earth for the world is rounded with words'. Her approach is from an individual to the group; universalize the word with the universe.
She adds a note to welcome stress or strain, which make us bold and strong, a chosen path of our own. In her poem, The Chosen Path', she utters, we must continue our tread on the chosen path with the same zeal, zest and zing' to reach the goal, whatever may be our aims and whims. Her approach here also starts from an individual.
On the other hand, Mr. Gopichand leaves a word for green earth's message'. He asks to think a while to live on a Green Earth. He gives a call to act with passion needs'. He concerns highly for the Nature.
"We pluck our Nature
As kids, pluck the wings of flies;
Oh! Don't play with death"
He also uses his words to change the mindset of the people, gives a clarion call as a cuckoo, and asks others to be cuckoos. A group approach is seen in the views of the poet.
"Let us think a while
As cuckoos spread joy through song,
Spread green earth's message", he earnestly asks the people.
The passions are the causes of devastation, which have to be controlled.
"All our vague passions,
Like mist and fog, engulf us.
Numb all our senses" he adds a supplement to his call in the poem Seasons' Charms'.
In a way both the poets use their letters for bringing a change and their poems are rather messages, may be for an individual or for a group, awakening the people to act correctly and to live and let live.
