India's initial performance Asian Games 2010

Palpitations, pressure, excitement, disheartened players and some joyous smiles yes, that is what Asian Games 2010 has brought with itself.

India was on cloud nine when Pankaj Advani won the first gold for the country in billiards singles while Alok Kumar claimed a bronze in 8-ball pool event.

Even the shooters didn't fail our expectations as they accounted for a silver and bronze on the second day of competition. Vijay Kumar won the bronze in the 10m air pistol individual event whereas Gagan Narang led the men's team to the 10m air rifle silver on Day 1, besides finishing second in the individual event.

It was an extremely proud moment for the nation when Ashish Kumar and Virdhawal Khade created history by clinching a bronze in their respective events.

Kumar won the first ever bronze medal for India in gymnastics and Khade proudly ended the swimming medal drought by winning a bronze after 24 years.

However India had to face few disappointments when Sasikiran failed to bag a position in the men's chess individual section. Women's waterpolo team too faced a crushing defeat after it lost to China by 38-2. Though Men's volleyball team lost to South Korea, they managed to make it up by thrashing Vietnam and Kazakhstan with a decent score.

It was dismal to see the ace shooter, Abhinav Bindra crash out of the Asian Games China 2010 due to some technical faults.

The new blood is proving to be extremely lucky for India. With Bomiljit winning a bronze in Wushu, the hunger for more medals has begun.

India's hopes are high and we are hoping to bag a few more medals in events like boxing, Wrestling and Badminton in Asiad 2010. And with players like Vijender Singh, Sushil Kumar and Saina Nehwal, the golds, silvers and bronzes will not hesitate to fall in India's lap.
