Salwar Kameez, in short known as the salwar, is the most ethnic and traditional outfit of central and south Asia

. The salwar or the shalwar is a loose pyjama like pants that has a draw string at the waist to adjust according to different hip sizes. The kameez is a long tunic with slits on both sides below waist for easy movement. The salwar kameez comes with a shawl or a dupatta that can be worn around the head, neck or shoulders. The salwar kameez were the mughals attire and worn mostly by muslims in the past. Today it is one of the most accepted traditional attire of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afganistan. Salwar kameez is worn by both men and women. The salwar kameez that men wear is also known as salwar kurta. The only difference between mens salwar and womens salwar is that, mens salwar does not have dupatta and are simple when compared to womens.

Salwar is now gaining popularity all over the world and the design has its base from patterns of Indian and Pakistan. Whether its a wedding or a party or even for casual and office use, salwar is the best outfit. This is because it comes in different fabrics, colors and work patterns. Some of the popular styles are the Anarkali salwar, Afgani salwar, Angrakha styles, Chudidar styles, parallel or trouser pattern, Patiala style etc. These styles have replaced the traditional salwar.

Chudidar is a form of salwar kameez where the bottom of the salwar is skin tight and is normally longer than the usual salwar kameez pants. This is designed in such a way so the pants can be worn like leggings with gatherings at the ankle. There have been many variations that have been done in a salwar kameez that results in combinations like the laccha,gharara, sharara, ghargra choli etc. These days, young women wear just the kameez along with jeans and use a stole to substitute the dupatta.

Another piece of work that in salwar kameez that adds charm to it is the various stylish neck patterns that can be customized to our desire. Although readymade salwars has the neck patterns already done, these days even salwar materials come with various different styles of neck patterns.
