Indian Saris: Classy And Adaptable

India is stated to have wonderful traditions and outfits; the sari is one such outfit which is worn by the womenfolk of this country

. A sari is a rectangular piece of fabric around 6 yards and sometimes 9 yards long. It is versatile and can be worn in several ways. The sari lends both grace and glamour to the wearer and is an all-purpose outfit for party wear, daily wear, and bridal wear and so on. The age-old sari is as popular as it used to be throughout the centuries due to its simplicity and practical comfort combined with a sense of sexuality a woman experiences.

It is worn over a long skirt and a blouse of top. The sari comes in different material depending on what you like. They are:

-Cotton

-Silk

-Brocade

-Embroidered

-Chiffon

-Crepe, and

-Printed

The sari can be very modest and cover up from head to toe making a woman look her innocent best and simple but playing with the pallu or the long end of the sari that falls over the shoulder could make a western outfit prudish compared to the sensuality a sari can bring out. The sari blouse or choli come in varied designs from sleeved to backless and tube type. The creativity goes a long way in designing these sari blouses. The pallu"s or the long ends of the sari could be extensively designed or embroidered according to the wearer"s choice. It is versatile as it can easily make any kind of figure look good by concealing extra flab if any. It can even accentuate a well proportioned figure or curves. It is a matter of how you drape it. Different parts of the country drape it in different ways but the most common way is to wear it long till the toes with pleats in the front and the pallu going over the right shoulder. The two essential accessories you need matched with the sari is the blouse and the petticoat or long skirt worn under. This garment is in style for over 5000 years now and is getting more and more popular in the Western world.

The designs of the blouse or choli have undergone a sea change from the days earlier. They come in all kind of designs like sleeveless blouses, spaghetti straps, and bell sleeves. Blouses with prominent buttons at the back are equally popular. Also making strong statements are blouses with long sleeves in transparent chiffon or lace. Besides, there are off-shoulder versions as well as those held up with strings and lycra blouses for a casual, westernized look. The fabrics used for designer blouses are mostly crepes, georgettes, silk and satin. Crepes are high in demand. These blouses or cholis are usually snug and fitted in varying lengths, necklines and sleeves. All these blouses should be created with a full opening either in the front or the back. They have to fit snugly like a corset. The petticoat is a slip worn under the sari from waist to toe very similar to a skirt. It is tied with a draw string and needs to be firm at the waist since the sari is tucked into this petticoat to be in place. The petticoat is usually the color of the sari and usually does not show through the sari.

The Sari has retained its innocence through its original form but it has evolved in tremendous variety in terms of design, material and color. It has an ageless charm and suit people of all age and all body types like short, tall, fat or thin. Today the market is flooded with all kinds of saris due to its high demand. The sari is undoubtedly a very elegant attire, donned by countless Indian women, ranging from the homemaker to the diva, from the queen to the working women, from the lively college-goers to the politician simply love to experiment with the sari. It is nothing but 6 yards of unstitched material but look what it can do to women across the globe?
