Indianapolis 500 Tickets Team Penske to Make Strong Presence at Indy

Team Penske is home to the reigning Indianapolis 500 champion Helio Castroneves, and if this IndyCar team has any say in the 2010 Indy race, they'll post back-to-back Indianapolis 500 victories. Team Penske, which includes Castroneves, Will Power and Ryan Briscoe, is the only team on the IRL circuit to host a winner for the 2010 season after the first three races (Sao Paulo, St. Pete and Birmingham), and other teams on the racing circuit have to step things up if they want to give Penske some competition going into Indy 500 month.

As of the start to the 2010 IndyCar season, Aussie native Will Power is the driver to beat. Power won the first two races in Sao Paulo and St. Pete and even took the pole at Birmingham's Barber Motorsports Park, and he's currently in first place in points standings (as of April 13). Power has come on strong ever since last year, when he was brought into the league as a replacement for Helio Castroneves during Castroneves' drawn-out trial for tax evasion, and even after Castroneves returned, Power proved his worth enough to have Penske field a third car for him this season.

The move has paid off for Roger Penske's well-groomed racing team, and now Team Penske will go into the springtime months as the team to beat in the IndyCar realm. Though there are still two races to compete in (Long Beach on April 18 and Kansas City on May 1) before the 2010 Indianapolis 500 commences, Team Penske is already the front-runner for the upcoming "Greatest Spectacle in Racing."

Penske already has the upper hand at this year's Indy 500, as reigning champion Helio Castroneves returns to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with every intention of posting a repeat performance of last year's spectacular show. Castroneves cruised into Victory Lane last year in one very emotional finish, becoming the first non-American driver to win the Indy 500 more than twice (he also won in 2001 and 2002).

In the 2009 Indianapolis 500, racing fans with Indianapolis 500 tickets to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway got to watch a photo finish as Castroneves coasted through the finish line in first place, followed closely by Dan Wheldon, Danica Patrick, Townsend Bell and Will Power, respectively.

Though he's an annual favorite to win the Indy 500, Castroneves has some big competition this year and most of it is coming from his own teammate. Will Power, another Penske heavyweight, has been an absolute force to be reckoned with so far in the 2010 IndyCar Series, sending a huge message resounding through the racing circuit in March when he won the first two IRL races of the season. Power had up to that point been considered still on rookie status, but his wins at Sao Paulo and St. Petersburg made him a target for the rest of the racing realm.

While Will Power and Helio Castroneves stand at No. 1 and No. 2 on driver standings as of April 13, don't count out the third Team Penske driver Ryan Briscoe from contention, either. Briscoe, currently in sixth place in points standings, has finished in the Top 10 in every race so far this season, as well, and he's also looking to prove himself at this year's Indy 500 during Memorial Day weekend. Anything can happen in Indy, and Team Penske will do everything it can to be prepared for this year's big race.
