Indoor Banners: Nylon Or Polyester?

Banners or flags (same thing really) for flag poles and other uses

, such as historic flags, are usually made from nylon or polyester. Nylon could be referred to as outdoor nylon and light weight poly or light weight polyester. Flags have been around for years, decades, centuries, if not millennia as a tool to signal and identify, usually from flagpoles.

Seasons ago, the very first (outdoor) banners were flown on battlefields, as militaries marched into battles. According to numerous historians, the first use of flags spreads from China and India, south-eastern Asia, where they are claimed to be invented. Over the many years, outdoor- and indoor flags have developed into practical tools for signaling and identifying purposes, outdoor banners especially in situations and environments where communication was more challenging, such as open seas.

As mentioned above, flags are commonly produced from nylon and polyester. Based on the material alone, a distinction can be made between in- and outdoor flags. Outdoor flags are often times produced from nylon where indoor flags are commonly made from polyester. However, this rule does not necessarily apply to banners of a bigger size.

Polyester is known for some of its advantages over other more natural fabrics, such as its resistance with regards to wrinkles. Some choose to produce products that have a good blend of the two, in other words, polyester fibers are spun together with natural fibers, which (however) is usually not applied for the production of flags.

Polyester in our day is also used for the production of other products such as: bottles, films, boats, auto-parts (filters) and wire.

Flags and banners of all kinds and in different sizes (for all types of flagpoles) are produced from polyester, such as: United States flags, custom made or designed flags, military banners, historic flags and lots more. Smaller light weight polyester flags are relatively cheaper than nylon flags. However, regular polyester flags can be more costly than nylon flags.
