Indy Racing League (irl) Tickets - Dixon Eyes Another Indycar Title
It's coming into the homestretch of the 2009 IndyCar Series open-wheel racing season
, and once again Target Chip Ganassi Racing's Scott Dixon is at the front of the pack, this year battling teammate Dario Franchitti for the title. It's all up to the last race of the season, the Firestone Indy 300 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway, to determine this year's champion, and if history repeats itself it will be Scott Dixon who zooms through the finish line in first place, defending his title as IndyCar Series champion in 2009. Dixon has had a solid season so far, winning races this season at Kansas, the Milwaukee Mile, Richmond, Mid-Ohio and Twin Ring Motegi, and he's got a chance at locking down the final race of the season at Homestead-Miami, as well - if he can fend off Dario Franchitti and Ryan Briscoe, that is. Following the Montegi race, Dixon leads the pack in driver standings with 570 points, just five points ahead of Franchitti and eight points ahead of Briscoe. The top three is very close, with the fourth place competitor (Helio Castroneves) 167 points down from the top, and it looks to be a fierce battle to the finish for all involved.
Racing fans with Indy Racing League (IRL) tickets online to races last year saw Chip Ganassi's Scott Dixon outdrive Brazilians Helio Castroneves and Tony Kanaan to take the title of 2008 IndyCar Series champion, winning races along the way at Homestead-Miami, Indianapolis, Texas, Nashville, Edmonton and Kentucky. Dixon's 2008 IndyCar title was his first in the league, and the native New Zealander has been out to make a repeat performance in 2009, though it hasn't all been smooth sailing. Dixon came off a 2008 series win with two disastrous performances in a row, starting the 2009 season in a funk with 16th and 15th place finishes in the year's first two races at St. Pete and Long Beach, respectively. After shaking off the rust, however, Dixon has nailed down solid performances throughout the rest of the season, becoming a leader in the series not long after.
While Scott Dixon can already taste his second IndyCar Series win in 2009, he will have to battle teammate Dario Franchitti for top honors, with the signifying race coming down to the Oct. 10 Homestead-Miami race to determine the victor. Franchitti was absent from the IndyCar Series last year after attempting a leap to NASCAR, but the talented Scottish driver did manage to sweep the series in 2007, which was the last time he competed in the IRL. Both Chip Ganassi drivers are looking to take their second IRL series wins this year, but another driver who can't be ruled out just yet is Penske's Ryan Briscoe, the fiery Australian who hasn't won a championship since 2006, when he triumphed over the Champ Car World Series prior to Champ Car's merge with IndyCar.
Briscoe has largely been the surprise upset of the league this year, winning races at St. Pete, Kentucky and Chicagoland and challenging Dixon and Franchitti to the end. The champion of the 2009 IndyCar Series will be announced following the Homestead-Miami race on Oct. 10, and it could be any of the IRL's top three drivers that is soon announced the 2009 winner!
