Roland Hughes' Infinite Exposure, written in brutally honest terms, is a resounding wake-up call to peaceable citizens everywhere and serves as a harbinger of a bleak future if action is not taken immediately. Essentially, Infinite Exposure gives a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the impact of offshoring technology (IT) jobs out of the United States. Using this basic premise, Hughes strives to lift the fa?ade of terrorism and give the reader an in-depth perspective of both sides: those who initiate terror and mayhem, and those who utilize the most uncivilized ways in promoting anti-terrorism.
Infinite Exposure opens from the perspective of Nedim, described as a good Muslim who sends out a few seemingly harmless e-mails and messages in return for a computer he could use for schoolwork. The ensuing whirlwind of interrogation finds Nedim at the front and center of an investigation. In a nutshell, the future of Information Technology, a thriving industry, is in the hands of terrorists who are laying the foundation for a potential strike that could trump the devastating impact of 9/11.
Fighting fire with fire, Roland Hughes paints an image of unrelenting officers thrashing Nedim. He not only receives a thrashing from non-uniformed officials, but is also coerced into signing a confession document admitting that he is a terrorist and stating that he understands the penalty-death or life in prison. Nedim's predicament is grim at best: he will either be executed by these people-or by al-Qaeda for cooperating against them. "Die now, or risk dying later," is what he is told.
Ultimately, the combination of corporate greed and offshoring IT jobs to companies in India and Pakistan will inevitably have disastrous results. Until recently, the one conundrum facing terrorists was how to get their "martyrs" (suicide bombers) into inland areas. Offshoring has made their task harrowingly simple. Basically, offshore companies accrue unfathomable revenue (in the tens of millions) and access to a plethora of visas allowing entry into target nations. One sentence depicts the irony of it all: "Not only were the martyrs being paid to come into the country and kill Americans, they were putting Americans out of jobs from day one."
Infinite Exposure is a must-read with tremendous relevance to pressing governmental and economic issues that have catapulted the United States' economy into a full-blown financial crisis. Understanding the weight and import of the information present in this book, Roland Hughes has opted to let the audience decide for itself if the ramifications of outsourcing work overseas-and the connection to terrorism-are for real.
