, officially called as the XXI Olympic Winter Games or the 21st Winter Olympics to be organized on February 12 to 28, 2010, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada . Also the 2010 Winter Olympics will be the third Olympics which is going to be hosted by Canada, and the first by the province of British Columbia. Earlier, Canada had organized Summer Olympics in Montreal in 1976 along with Winter Olympics in Calgary in 1988. As per the tradition of Olympic, the then Vancouver mayor Sam Sullivan received the Olympic flag during the closing ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. Afterwards the flag was raised on February 28, 2006 in a special ceremony which will be on display at Vancouver City Hall until the Olympic opening ceremony next year. The 2010 winter olympics event will be officially opened by Governor General Michaelle Jean in canada.

The Canadian Olympic Association has decided to choose Vancouver as the Canadian candidate city over Calgary for hosting 2010 winter olympics following next year.
