Elsa's Kopje is located in Kenya's best kept secret

, the untamed wilderness of Meru National Park. Elsa's Kopje is named after Elsa the lioness, made famous by George and Joy Adamson's biographical book and film "Born Free".

Each of the ten individually built cottages at Elsa's are luxuriously appointed, and all are considered the ultimate 'room with a view'. The cottages are built of stone and thatch carefully crafted around the natural features of the hill. Paved paths, lit by lamps at night, lead from each cottage to the comfortable open bar, lounge and dining room.

Elsa's has an airy sense of space, style and pure relaxation. The infinity pool, imaginatively built into a rock overlooks the plains below, the perfect place for chilling out after a game drive or guided walk in the bush. Each of the cottages is uniquely designed. In each there is either a generous double bed or comfortable twin beds swathed in netting. The bathrooms are elegant: showers or baths made out of stone, modern flush toilets, bidets and double basins.

Elsa's Private House is set apart from the rest of the lodge cottages and it therefore provides complete exclusivity and privacy. The house consists of two double bedrooms with en-suite bathroom with a large bath-tub. There is a spacious twin room, with en-suite bathroom perfect for a family on safari. The living area spills into your very own private swimming pool which falls neatly to the horizon beyond which are the Meru plains.

Elsa's newest addition is a fabulous honeymoon suite, a 3-tiered cottage with the most incredible views and spacious design. It features one double bedroom, an en suite bathroom, sitting room and private deck all held together by a sweeping staircase.

The atmosphere at Elsa's induces a feeling of peace thanks to a highly trained, unobtrusive team of staff and skilled hosts that manage the lodge. Each cottage is attended by a butler who also waits on the guests at mealtimes. The food is traditional Northern Italian cuisine blended with a selection of local and international dishes, fresh baked bread, crisp salads and locally grown vegetables.

Safari activities at Elsa's include game drives in open-sided safari Land Rovers, driven by knowledgeable driver-guides, all members of the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association. Guided walks will get you even closer to nature and provide excellent opportunities to really test the knowledge of your guide.

Other attractions include bush breakfasts and sundowners and visits to the Tharaka tribal village on the Southern Boundary of the Park.
