Anyone that has visited the Hawaiian Islands has likely seen the volcanic mountains
either dormant or ones that are active, but there is so much more Hawaiian information to learn from these spectacular formations of nature. Since 2002 visitors and some locals alike have made an evening pilgrimage to the end of Chain of Craters Road in Hawaii
One could view the spectacular sight of fiery lava that flows from Kilauea Volcano from standing at a national park. The left side of the volcano was witnessed as to having lava flows down to the sea at Highcastle. More activity took place two days later on the right side where the lava entered the sea at Wilipe'a. This extreme activity has been taking place since 1983, but it fortunately hasn't happened in recent years.
The Kohala Volcano is believed to be the oldest volcano in the world. Researchers believe that it emerged from the sea around five hundred thousand years ago. They also believe that an enormous landslide removed the volcano's north east flank which resulted in forming the rugged sea cliffs that we witness today. The height of the summit has been significantly reduced by one thousand meters over the most recent years. This ancient and magnificent volcano has continued to sink while lava flows from its two neighbors. This has resulted in the burial of the southern part of the mountain. Kohala is considered to be an extinct volcano by volcanic experts.
Mauna Key is strongly considered as the tallest mountain in the world if it was measured from the sea floor. It is certainly the tallest volcano around. The words "white mountain" comes from the several feet of snow found on the top of Mauna Key. It is definitely one of the best venues in which one can view the stars. This volcano is also considered to be dormant, but leading experts are quick to suggest that it is likely to erupt again sometime in the future.
Hualalai is the third youngest and the third most active on the island today. Locals continue to build roads and houses in spite of the fact that this unpredictable volcano may erupt again within the next century.
