Information Relating To Stopping Snoring

There are many different reasons as to why people snore

. Ones airway may be obstructed as the result of a cold/flew, sinus difficulties, allergies or congestion. Others may experience physical deformities found in the nasal cavity like the formation of polyps or a deviated septum, (the later relates to the thin wall of skin that separates each nostril, and when compromised can cause snoring) or something as simple as too much alcohol in the blood stream causing the nose and throat to over relax.

When in sleep mode, the throat and or the tongue in some people can become too relaxed and gall back covering the airway ultimately causing snoring. A soft palate can also be a contributing factor if the length and or composition are too long and or too soft, again resulting in the covering of the airway.

What causes the actual snoring sound?

The snoring sound is produced when the air inside the mouth, throat and nose starts to vibrate from passing over the muscles and tissue surfaces. These surfaces such as the palate, throat wall and septum are in some case not adequately separated and also not strong enough to withstand the flow of the in haled and exhaled breath...hence the lovely sound we know as snoring.

It is unlikely that snoring is directly harmful to ones body, however the indirect harm is plentiful both to the snorer and others that have to live with the disturbing noise be it a partner or other family member etc.

Sleep disorders such as snoring are an issue that needs to be taken very seriously as it affects the quality of the other 70% of your life (based on spending 30% of you life asleep) and of those around you.

Continuous waking throughout the night could mean that you are snoring or experiencing sleep apnea (a condition where you stop breathing for up to 90 seconds in your sleep). Seeking advice and assessment from a GP, dentist or ear nose and throat specialist is highly recommended to diagnose and treat these conditions early. Another possibility would be to visit a sleep clinic where they not only study your sleep patterns and behavior but also look for other areas of your life that may be contributing to the problem.
