It only a few yeas ago that TV shows started airing science fiction shows depicting

a futuristic society with so many robots used to enhance human daily lives. Currently the society is dominated by computers, smart gadgets and mobile devices but the human race has not yet reached the kind of lifestyle where robotics becomes an integral part of everyday life. But technology is still improving led by a number of future robot companies that can help define the robotics future of the world.

One of the companies is Amazon that recently became a robotics pioneer after acquiring Kiva Systems Inc an announcement that was made in March 2012. This was an all cash $775 million deal that is aimed at helping to fully automate the warehouse distribution process of the company. This is a necessary move to reduce capital expenditure for an operation that is believed to be one of the largest in the entire world.

There were seventeen new fulfillment centers added by Amazon in 2011 aimed at expanding the industrial robotics needs. In this level of logistics the robotic success is going to be a convincing model for many businesses across the globe. Another company is iRobot that was able to put a face on what the average consumer can expect to gain from practical robot technology. This was done through the introduction of the Roomba series of automated robot vacuums.

The company also makes robots for underwater surveyors as well as the Defense Department which uses a variety of these machines where manned exploration is not applicable. For instance when Japan shut down its nuclear power plants due to an earthquake four robots from this company were sent into the facility for damage surveillance.

AVAV AeroVironment is another company that is on the cutting edge with regard to unmanned aerial reconnaissance. This company is the primary Defense Department supplier of unmanned aircraft systems having serviced the military with devices such as hand held robots used to survey ground opposition. The company recently demonstrated its innovation by developing the tinniest unmanned aerial vehicle.

This vehicle was named the Nano Hummingbird, a compact surveillance unit that can be used for controlled and covert observation. For this the TIME magazine named it among 50 best innovations of 2011. This UAV is especially suitable for use in urban environments and clearly outlines what lies ahead in terms of innovation with regard to robots taking to the skies.

Among these companies is Lockheed Martin which is also a Department of Defense core innovator. LMT has the facilities and resources to design, develop and produce some complex robotic vehicles and devices. It currently has projects under development some of which it has shown off in videos. The company has unmatched advantage in terms of resources that can be utilized for further development and as of April 12 2012 the company had a market capitalization of $29 billion.

Last but not least is the Microsoft company. Among the unique surprises provided by the Kinect gaming console which is a product of Microsoft is its offshoot robotic technology advancements. In a number of ways this system has become a household driver in terms of robotic innovation both as an affordable and core tool used to gather information in regards to the surroundings of a machine. This is reminiscent of computer technology in early days.
