Sand paper is the important tool in sanding and it is available in many different grit levels
, depending on the usage. The grit level is nothing but the size of particles fixed on the sand paper, and this particle is available in different sizes that range from ultra fine to extra course. Usually furniture is sanded using different sanding tools. Some of the sanding tools that are used on furniture are:
Orbital Sander: This tool is usually used on furniture for fast removal. An orbital sander is a powdered tool which revolves the sand paper that attached on it, on the surface of the furniture. This is used as a finish sanding tool.
Sanding Block: This sanding tool is a block of wood which places the sand paper on it that is on the bottom region of it. So that you can hold this block on other side and can sweep this sanding block gently to and fro with your arm on the surface to be sanded. This sanding block is usually employed to sand smaller furniture parts.
Belt Sander: A belt sander is an effective tool in sanding which removes the unwanted fine particles very quickly. In most of the large woodworking projects, this tool is used in the first step itself to remove the particles. The sandpaper which is attached to the moving belt usually increases the friction in a very short amount of time. Another advantage of this tool is that you can adjust the speed as per your need.
Hand Sanding: This type of sanding is mostly used for final sanding or to remove fine particles from smaller pieces or to sand hard to reach places of the furniture.
Cheesecloth or Tack Cloth: This cloth is very important in furniture sanding as it removes all the fine particles, dirt and dust which present in a sticky edge of the furniture. This has to be done very gently so avoid hard rubbing.
