Inner and Outer Vision
Inner and Outer Vision
The outer vision is constructed by the conscious mind. It is what we perceive as the well-contoured physical world. Usually when we direct our attention to an outside object with the opened eyes, the various elements of the image are processed by our conscious mind which constructs the sharply outlined mental image. Our perception is focused in the middle of the image and what is on the sides of our field of vision is lost. This mode of vision can be called the mental mode which is produced from the ordinary mental consciousness. When we look in this manner, our eyes tend to concentrate far away to the outside object.
In higher levels of consciousness there is another kind of vision which can be called the inner vision. By using the inner vision or non-mental mode of vision we explore the inner worlds of mind. When we are on this mode we become aware of the fact of seeing, we shift our attention from the object of perception to the process of perceiving. Instead of watching the object, we start watching the action of seeing. When we are in this expanded mode of perception our vision becomes peripheral and embraces the whole field in front of us, the whole field of sight converges into the middle of the two physical eyes and the outlines of physical image become blurry. The reality seems fluid. This subtle perception requires stationary ordinary mental consciousness. The conscious mind can not cope with the fluid reality. The mind contracts and adds contours on the fluid reality by producing the outlined physical image. By practicing the inner vision we begin to awaken the third eye. The inner vision and the third eye are the same thing.
When we use the inner vision our eyes tend to concentrate nearby and start seeing inwardly. The habit of looking inwardly even may increase the chances of becoming a little nearsighted. What's more, the blue field phenomenon and the so called harmless eye floaters become more visible when we develop the inner vision. Inner vision may become our dominant mode of vision which interferes with our outer vision.
But which is the underlying cause of shifting from outer mode of seeing to the other? The underlying cause is our intent. The power of intent is the most powerful force in the universe. The miracle in living creatures is that their infinite intelligent bodies follow their intent. Without exception human body also obeys the mind intent. Human intent can be either conscious or unconscious. Intent means giving attention to something. The best example of unconscious intent is when we try to avoid something. A typical case is when we try to avoid the harmless eye floaters. The chances are high that there is nothing wrong with our eyes and extended perception. They may just have adapted to the new vision mode.
But, which is the real reality? The fluid reality or the sharply outlined physical one? Does the conscious mind perceive the physical reality as it is? Or does the conscious mind filter the real fluid reality by constructing artificial one? If our awareness is produced by the conscious or rational mind, why do we maintain our awareness into deeper levels of consciousness while sleeping (lucid dreaming)? This is subjected to duality. Neither side can be strictly proved. Actually both sides (theories) are much grounded in scientific interpretations? According to the quantum theory the observer collapses the quantum wave function (fluid reality) by obtaining the subatomic particle (physical matter). The atom which is in a superposition state collapses into a particle when it is observed. The atom which is simultaneously in different places is localized in the moment of observation. But which is the observer? The conscious observer (human consciousness) or the measurement equipment (matter itself)? This is the quantum enigma. The rational mind will never solve this duality. Nothing can escape the principle of duality. But the essence of this article stands into the center of duality. In the center of duality there is just information or consciousness.
Note: If you notice eye floaters or other eye problems you should get an eye exam by a professional.
