It's very possible, for those interested in modeling or acting, to come across an agency who will try and catch you up in some sort of scam. You put your aspirations out there, and they ask for money with no intention of finding you work. It's more common than you think. But if you're smart and careful, you can figure out who to trust and who to avoid. Real agencies are fully licensed and have a client list full of names you know. If it's a big company that trusts the agency, you might be able to as well. This is also the time to get your model composites made. These are your business cards, and while it'll cost you to get them made, they're necessary for the agency to find you work. And since the agency can help you with the composites, it'll be one of your first professional dealings with that agency, so pay attention.

What anyone trying to break in must have, absolutely must have, is a strong work ethic. The willingness to put in serious hours to making the career work.
