Install A Tubeless Motorcycle Tire Using 5 Simple Steps
Attempting to mount your tire may be dangerous
. Michelin advises motorcyclists to take their tires to an installer to have it mounted safely; however, you will realize that you can do it at home safely following the steps illustrated in this article. Changing a tubeless tire is not an uphill task, it might take a little of your energy to fit in especially if its a new tire but it is not a difficult.
What you need is:
Several Tire Irons
Valve Core Tool
Bead Breaker
Compressed Air
Silicone Spray-on Lubrication/ wheel mounting lubricant
Rim Protector
Breezer Tire Tool
Mount your tubeless tire following these five simple steps:
1) First, you need to place the wheel of your bike on a holding apparatus such a tire changing stand or two blocks of wood. Lubricate the side walls of the tire well using a wheel mounting lubricant or spray-on silicone lubricant for safety while driving.
2) Next, check and mark the rotation of the rim. This will help you adjust the new tires rotational direction with that of the rim accordingly. Using tire irons, slowly roll the bead to the edge of the rim until it is completely over the rim.
3) Now check the rotational direction of the new tire, and align it with the rotational direction of the rim. Press as much of the lower bead into the rim without using any irons. You can now insert the rest of the bed using a Breezer tire tool while rotating the tire. Do the same with the upper side.
4) Place the valve stem in line with the valve hole; place it in such a manner that the valve stem is protruding through the valve hole. Use the yellow line to guide you. Once you have this in place, pump some air into the tube using an air compressed pump in order to aid you in sitting the bead well on the rim. Continue pumping air until the bead sits properly on the rim or until hear a loud pop or two. You can then fit the core tool on the valve stems core.
5) Once you have done all the above, you can then inflate your tire to the recommended psi
Good, now the tire is mounted. But, is it balanced?
Our next task is to balance the tires because you do not want to be on the road with unbalanced tires. There are a couple of methods of balancing your wheels at home without using a balance machine. In this case we will use milk crates.
Place the wheel together with its axle and suspend it across the two crates. Spin the tire. Check for any abnormalities and repair them immediately. After that, spin the tire one more time so as to loosen the grease on the bearings. Next, use weights to check the high spots of your wheel while spinning. Keep adding the weight all the while marking the high spots until the markings become random.
That is it! Your wheel is now mounted and balanced. Enjoy your ride.
