Install An Smtp Relay Server And Send Mail On The Go
The advancement in communication has been largely due to the development of the Internet
. Sending a mail is nothing amazing these days and no one spares a thought to the process. When a mail is sent through an email address that has been provided by an Internet Service Provider (ISP), then the mail has to pass through a Simple mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). This is turn sends the message to the recipient across the wide sea called the Internet.
This is a wonderful system and sends mails within a fraction of a second as long as your computer is directly connected to the ISP"s network. But in order to put a check on the misuse the ISPs have made it a policy to disallow a computer to connect t their SMTP server when it is not connected to their network directly. By using an SMTP relay you can connect to any particular network without having to directly connect to the ISP"s network and send and receive mails.
You can follow the given steps to configure the SMTP relay service on your computer and send mails while on the move.
You have to set up an account with an SMTP relay service provider in order to be able to connect. Make a note of the settings they have given you in order to configure your email program.
Start your email program and go to the settings page so that you can configure the email accounts.
Now select the email account whose settings you need to change and use remotely.
Keep a note of the account setting that you have been using till now so that you can fill them in if you need to stop using the relay service.
Now remove the earlier settings and replace them with the settings that the SMTP relay service provider has given you. As a result all your emails will be sent via the SMTP relay server of the relay service provider instead of via that of the ISP"s
You have to repeat the process for each of the accounts that need to be changed.
A word of caution:
Some of the top Web based email accounts allow you to use your email account from anywhere round the world. So you do not nee a relay server for sending mails if you are using any one of them. So find it out from your ISP if you need it or not. Also, change back all your accounts to the ISP server before closing the SMTP relay services.
