Installing A Garage Door Opener In 9 Steps
Long gone are the days when man would have to manually open a garage door
. Today, we are fortunate enough to not deal with such tiresome tasks. This is due almost entirely to the invention of the garage door opener. Though, if your opener needs replacing, what steps are necessary in order to rectify the situation? In this article, we will outline the specific steps necessary in order to replace and install a brand new model.
Step 1
The mechanism which helps draw the door up should be installed in the very center of it. You can use a tape to measure and determine the exact location. Draw a short, vertical line down the center ensuring that once the drawbar is affixed, that the weight will be evenly balanced.
Step 2
Manually raise and lower the door, making note of the top point of its travel. Mark this location accordingly.
Step 3
Inspect the area just above the unit at your dividing line making certain there is a support in that location suitable for mounting the front rail end. If your home lacks such a support, you can install a front mounting board.
Step 4
Attach the rail to the motor unit which is on the garage floor. Lift and fasten the end of the railing to the front mounting plank at a location which resides roughly two inches above the intersecting marks made to denote the high point and center lines while the gate is down.
Step 5
Raise the motor to where the rail appears horizontal or parallel with the track. While the motor is in this position, raise and lower the unit by hand. Once the position of the motor is determined, fasten it to the metal joists.
Step 6
Attach the drawbar to the rail carriage and move it to the closed position. Drill holes in the gate after marking the drawbar mounting-screw holes on the garage gate. Insert and tighten the hardware which fastens it to the drawbar.
Step 7
Install the push button and radio receiver.
Step 8
Plug an extension cord into the drive assembly cord and set the unit in motion using the push button method. Observe carefully to make sure there are no issues.
Step 9
After disconnecting the extension cord, plug the drive assembly line into the permanent outlet.
And there you have it! Now you'll be able to maintain and make basic repairs to your garage door and opener without having to call a professional.
